Video goes viral as first lady faces rejection from Nursing students (Watch)

A viral video surfaced on social media on Wednesday, showing students of the Delta State School of Nursing rejecting Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, as their “mother” during her visit.

Oluremi Tinubu was in Delta State for her Renewed Hope Initiative project. During the visit, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori applauded her efforts, highlighting the ongoing transformation in the health sector.

He praised the First Lady’s commitment to improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians, citing the positive impact of RHI since its launch in 2023.

As part of the event, professional kits were handed over to the wives of South-South governors, who serve as RHI coordinators in their states.

The First Lady also visited the Traditional Rulers’ Council Chambers, where she met with monarchs, including the Orodje of Okpe, retired Major General Felix Mujak Peruo.

However, a particular moment from the event stirred widespread reactions on social media.

In the viral clip, the event’s Master of Ceremony introduced Oluremi Tinubu as “everyone’s mother,” a common title for First Ladies. The nursing students, however, refused to accept this designation. When the MC declared, “Na our mama be this” (translated as “This is our mother”), the students responded in unison, “Na your mama be this” (translated as “This is your mother”), signalling their rejection of the title.

While the students’ exact reason for rejecting the First Lady as their “mother” remains unclear, the incident comes amid widespread discontent over the economic hardship and insecurity plaguing Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Many Nigerians have voiced frustration over rising living costs, food scarcity, and other economic challenges.
