NGO Embarks On Tree Planting Campaign In Nasarawa Community
A Non- Governmental Organization, Grassroot Agricultural Value Investment limited (GRAVC) has embarked on a project to plant 3,500 economic trees in Kwarra community of Keana local government area of Nasarawa State to combat desertification and protect the environment.
Desertification has been identified as a major threat to some areas in Nasarawa State including the Kwarra community of Agyaragu district of Keana local government area.
According to reports, the state’s fragile ecosystem and geographical location make it highly susceptible to desertification, posing a significant risk to the livelihoods of its residence and the state overall development.
Speaking while flagging off the tree planting campaign, the program manager of Grassroot Agricultural Value Chain investment limited (GRAVC), Pastor Dayo Jolaoluwa said the organization nurses 1000 Palm seeds, 2000 pawpaw and about 50 coconuts trees with the intention to increase the number in the area.
Pastor Dayo explained further that the organization is committed to make some communities in the state green, recognizing the urgent need to address the threat of desert, which is exacerbated by climate change, deforestation, and unsustainable land use practices.
He said the program also aimed at empowering local farmers and youths across the area through a comprehensive training on Agricultural value chain development which is equally designed to equip participants with practical knowledge, skills and strategies to enhance productivity, creates jobs and boost agribusiness competitiveness within the area.
He encouraged the community to embrace the programme which is to their benefits both in terms of desertification ad well as economic benefits to participate in the planting of economic trees and maintenance to safeguards the environment.
He emphasis the importance of collaboration in achieving environmental protection goals adding that the organization initiative to nurse economic trees planting demonstrates it’s commitment to making some communities in the state green.
Pastor Dayo Jolaoluwa while interacting with the people of Kwarra community assures them of enhancing food security and uplifting livelihoods.
” Many people are not aware of this programme, the project is brought to help the masses.
“We are here to empower the people of this community, we have many things in stock that will improve your livelihoods.
“We are here to bring development in your community and not to take away your land, ” he concluded.
On his part, the Emir of Kwarra, HRH Usman Waya Abubakar who welcome the development appreciated his guest for the visit, urging the people of his community to embrace the Program, describing it as genuine.
The Emir of Kwarra assured the project manager and his team that he is going to provide them with farmland to execute their program, calling on the people of his community to give them the maximum cooperation for rapid development to be achieved in their community.
Also speaking, Mrs. Philomina Luka appreciated the Emir of Kwarra for his untiring efforts and commitment towards bringing development in his community, urging them to give their support for the program to Kickstart.
On their separate contributions, some members of Kwarra community Daniel Umbugadu and Dr. Namson Tsaku appreciated the Project manager and his team for bringing the program to their community, says it will surely bring development and improve their farmland.
The participants drown from diverse farming communities all embrace the programm which focuses on how to plant and maintain economic trees, it’s importance and the benefit the community stand to gain.
