Tinubu Lifts Emergency Rule in Rivers, Reinstates Fubara as Governor
President Bola Tinubu has lifted the emergency rule imposed on Rivers State and reinstated Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The announcement, made on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, comes six months after the federal government declared emergency rule in the state, following the prolonged political crisis between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
In his directive, Tinubu ordered Fubara to resume duties on Thursday, September 18. The president also reinstated Deputy Governor Ngozi Nma Odu and instructed members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to return to their legislative responsibilities.
Further details on the reinstatement are expected in the coming hours.
