CAC Blasts Pastor Fatoyinbo over Negative Comments on Apostle Babalola

The Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) has issued a strongly worded response to Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), condemning his recent remarks about the late Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola, the church’s first General Evangelist.

In a statement signed by Pastor Ade Alawode, CAC’s Director of Publicity, the church said it was compelled to respond “to correct misleading narratives” and to “defend the legacy” of the revered revivalist.

Fatoyinbo, in a trending sermon clip on YouTube, acknowledged Babalola’s anointing but mocked his financial status and questioned the whereabouts of his children — a remark CAC described as “insensitive, ill-informed, and biblically flawed.”

Quoting Luke 12:15, the church warned against equating ministerial success with material wealth, accusing Fatoyinbo of promoting “prosperity theology that encourages greed, corruption, and godlessness.”

“Which Bible do you read and preach from?” the statement asked, warning that such teachings amounted to Simony — the monetisation of spiritual gifts.

Setting the record straight, CAC listed Babalola’s achievements, noting that he was not poor but lived modestly, gave generously, and supported countless people without exploiting the pulpit. The statement also confirmed that Babalola’s children are alive, blessed, and quietly serving God.

“Apostle Babalola’s impact transcends generations,” Alawode said. “More than 66 years after his passing, his legacy continues to inspire and bless countless lives.”

The CAC concluded by urging pastors to measure anointing by sacrificial service rather than material accumulation, reminding ministers of Jesus’ words: “Take heed and beware of covetousness.”
