Fire guts Rivers government secretariat

A section of the Rivers state government secretariat in Port Harcourt has been razed by fire.

The incident that occured on Monday reportedly affected the section that housed the Rivers State Pension Board.

This was confirmed by Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Honour Sirawoo.

Sirawoo said firefighters from both the state and Federal Fire Services (FFS) are currently at the scene, working hard to put out the flames.

He, however, said it is not yet clear if there are any casualties.

Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers, recently sacked the Pensions Board inaugurated by  Ibok-Ete Ibas, the immediate former sole administrator of the state.
