See What Dangote Said About Africa Being the Only Continent With Real Growth
Africa’s richest man and President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has declared that the African continent is currently the only region experiencing genuine economic growth, adding that the future of Europe and other parts of the world now hinges on Africa’s progress.
Speaking on Friday at the 32nd Annual Meeting of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) in Abuja, Dangote called for a renewed sense of urgency among African leaders and investors to drive the continent’s transformation from within.
“Let us make our continent a productive continent,” Dangote told delegates. “We’re the only continent that has actually had growth. If you look at it today, Europe, with respect to them, there is no growth in Europe. They’ve reached a certain point … they need Africa to grow.”
The event, themed “Building the Future on Decades of Resilience”, drew over 6,000 participants from across Africa and the globe, highlighting the growing momentum around intra-African trade and development.
Dangote, a key voice in African industrialisation, urged governments to shift their focus from chasing foreign investors to building trust and enabling environments for local entrepreneurs. According to him, robust domestic investment is the magnet that attracts meaningful foreign capital.
“A lot of African countries keep looking for foreign investors, but they won’t come easily if we don’t take care of our own. Support local investors who are performing — that’s how you send the right signal to the outside world,” he said.
He further challenged African business leaders to redefine wealth creation not as personal gain, but as a collective mission to uplift the continent. “The responsibility lies with us. Nobody is going to come from anywhere to make Africa great. That’s our job,” Dangote stressed.
“We can turn Africa into heaven in five years. It’s not a dream — it’s achievable. But first, we must think big to grow big,” he concluded.
The Dangote Group is currently spearheading several key projects across Africa, including the continent’s largest refinery and a major fertilizer plant, both in Nigeria, aimed at reducing import dependence and unlocking industrial capacity.
