Hilda Baci Begins Guinness World Record Attempt for Largest Pot of Jollof Rice in Lagos
Nigerian celebrity chef, Hilda Baci, has launched her latest Guinness World Record attempt, this time to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice.
The record-breaking cook, who gained global attention in 2023 after setting the record for the longest cooking marathon, kicked off the culinary challenge on Monday in Lagos, drawing cheers from fans and supporters.
The event is both a showcase of African cuisine and a community initiative, with the food set to be distributed to attendees and donated to charity.
A specially designed 22,619-litre pot, about six metres in diameter, is being used for the attempt. Baci plans to cook with 250 bags of rice, aiming to fill the pot to around 80 percent — enough to feed at least 10,000 people.
Before cooking commenced, her mother was seen praying with her, asking for strength and success. The moment drew emotional reactions from spectators, who hailed her as a key source of support throughout Baci’s culinary journey.
On Instagram, Hilda shared a video captioned:
“Yes, I can officially confirm this pot is squeaky clean! I personally rolled up my sleeves and washed it myself. In just a few hours, this same pot will be home to thousands of servings of Nigerian jollof history in the making.”
Supporters across social media have expressed confidence in her success. One user, @naija.bakers, wrote: “It’s a success already. Clear skies. Congratulations Hilda.” Another, @blessing___peace, added: “The way she outdid herself in that cookathon, I believe she will do the same with this biggest jollof pot.”
The attempt has also attracted professional backing, with food safety experts lending support to ensure standards are met during the exercise.
Hilda Baci’s record bid continues in Lagos, as Nigerians and international fans watch closely to see if she can secure another place in Guinness World Records.
