FG begins payment of second tranche of N44,000 arrears to Corps members
The Federal Government has resumed the payment of arrears to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, disbursing the second tranche of the N44,000 owed to them across the country.
The payments, which began on Wednesday, are being made in batches, marking the second release since June 3, 2025, when the first tranche was settled.
The arrears stem from the newly approved N77,000 monthly allowance for corps members, which the government pledged earlier this year.
On April 5, during the Batch A 2025 Pre-Mobilisation Workshop in Abuja, the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, assured that both serving and recently discharged corps members would benefit from the new allowance.
“Once funds are released to us to offset the arrears, we will pay them. Even our corps members who passed out recently will benefit. We have their bank details,” he said.
He stressed that the government remained committed to its promises, adding that Nigerians “should not fret” because it is responsive to their needs.
The latest disbursement, covering the period from July 2024 to March 2025, comes after months of frustration over delayed payments.
Some serving corps members confirmed the payment to MYTRENDCASTER on condition of anonymity, describing the alerts as unexpected after the long wait.
