Katsina Governor Suspends Top Officials Over Inmate Torture which led to Amputation

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has ordered the suspension of top officials at the State Reformatory Centre, Babbar Ruga, following revelations of torture and mishandling of an inmate, Usman Musa.

The suspended officials include the Principal, Abdulzahir Abubakar, the Vice Principal, Bala Abubakar, and a porter, Yunusa Yusuf, who were involved in the incident that led to the amputation of the victim’s left hand and severe injury to his right hand.

The governor also directed the immediate termination of Murtala Suleiman, a casual staff member of the centre, for his role in the matter.

To aid the victim’s recovery and reintegration, Governor Radda approved N970,000 to cover medical expenses and N35 million for a sensor-enabled prosthetic hand.

A committee, chaired by the Special Adviser on Public Administration and Service Reforms, Alhaji Usman Isiyaku, has been tasked with implementing reforms to upgrade the State Reformatory Centre to meet international best practices in correctional management and inmate welfare.
