Naira Marley Breaks Silence on MohBad’s Death, Denies Wrongdoing
After nearly two years of silence, Nigerian singer and Marlian Records boss, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has spoken publicly about the controversies surrounding the death of his former signee, Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as MohBad.
In a lengthy statement released yesterday, Marley addressed what he described as false accusations and rumors linking him and his record label to the tragic incident. He maintained that he has been vindicated by investigations and cleared of any charges.
Quoting one of his remarks, Marley said, “I know never to explain myself to anybody because the people who like you don’t need it and the people who dislike you won’t believe you.”
Marley went on to recount his relationship with MohBad, noting that he signed the late singer to Marlian Music in December 2019. He shared screenshots of their conversations as evidence of the support he claimed to have given MohBad during his rise.
According to Marley, he became aware of MohBad’s use of a substance called “ice” (crack) in mid-2020 and advised him against it. He also alleged that MohBad battled paranoia and once attempted suicide in March 2022, which led him to encourage professional help.
He explained that a dispute in October 2022 resulted in the termination of MohBad’s contract with the label. Marley argued that the disagreement was staged to justify the exit but said he allowed the termination despite what he described as a significant financial investment in MohBad’s career.
On his return to Nigeria following MohBad’s death, Marley confirmed that he cooperated fully with police investigations. He was detained for two months before being released and cleared of wrongdoing.

The Marlian Music boss further revealed that he has preserved all of MohBad’s royalties since his passing and is willing to hand them over to the family or the courts. He also called for a thorough investigation into everyone who had contact with MohBad in the 24 to 48 hours before his death.
Marley ended his statement by stressing that he had no pending dispute with the late singer, insisting that he too wants justice and clarity on the circumstances that led to MohBad’s untimely demise.
