Obidient Movement Urges Jonathan to Back Peter Obi for 2027 Presidency

Supporters of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, have called on former President Goodluck Jonathan to step aside and support Obi in the 2027 general election.

The appeal came after Obi held a closed-door meeting with Jonathan in Abuja on Thursday. Sharing details of the meeting on his X handle, Obi described the former president as “a very dear elder brother, statesman, and leader,” adding that their discussions centred on the state of the nation.

Although Jonathan has not publicly declared any intention to contest in 2027, speculation about a possible comeback has fueled intense debate in political circles.

Reacting to the development, the Obidient Movement, through its National Coordinator Dr. Yunusa Tanko, urged Jonathan to maintain his role as a respected statesman and rally behind Obi.

“They have been friends for a long time. The meeting was for them to fraternise and discuss how to rescue Nigeria. But for us in the Obidient Movement, it would be great if Jonathan remains the respected statesman he is known for. He has done his best as President, he is respected, and this is the time for him to support his brother,” Tanko said.

He emphasized that while both men are influential leaders, Obi remains the candidate of millions of Nigerians yearning for change.
